Decode da Code is a shareware ($12) application which decodes base64 and uuencode(.uu) encoded files, and can figure out multi-part MIME mail messages, including files encoded in the AppleDouble format. It can use Internet Config to figure out what kind of file is encoded and set the appropriate file type and creator codes. It can also open the decoded file with a post-processing application that is specified in Internet Config.
Decode da Code was designed as a helper application for Internet programs such as NewsWatcher which need a separate application to decode encoded binary files. Decode da Code usually runs quickly and silently without ever coming to the foreground, so you can continue working without interruptions. In the preferences, you can set Decode da Code to automatically delete files after they have been decoded, to keep your disk tidy.
Preferences
There's a preferences dialog box in the File menu and it has two options. By default they are both off.
• Delete original after decoding
This deletes the original, encoded file after all of its encoded parts have been decoded. Careful — deleting is quite permanent! Useful for keeping your disk free of the unneeded intermediate files that NewsWatcher creates. By default, this option is off, which means that Decode doesn't delete anything.
• Search remote volumes for post processors
This affects post-processing. If, in Internet Config, you have set up your Internet Preferences to post-process certain file types (set up in File Mappings), Decode will look for the application to open to post-process those files. With this option on, Decode will look on both local and remote volumes (disks, servers, etc.) for the application to open. With it off, as it is by default, Decode will look only on local volumes for the application.
Shareware
If you find this application useful, please support shareware and send $12 to the author of Decode. You can send a check directly to:

or you can use the Kagi shareware payment system. Just open the Register program included in this package, fill out the fields, and click Copy so that you can paste the info into an email message, or click print to snail mail your info to Kagi. See the How to Register document for more info on using Register.
This is a fully functional version of Decode. It is not crippled in any way, nor will it expire or put up annoying messages asking you to send in your shareware fee. I've never really liked that.
Note
Since there's no way to open files for decoding from within the program, you'll have to drag the encoded file onto the application icon.
Update history
